In a heart-wrenching moment, Afrobeats sensation Ayo Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, was captured in tears during his mother’s wake-keep ceremony.
Wizkid’s mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. On Wednesday, a candlelight procession was held in honor of the singer’s mother, marking Wizkid’s first public appearance after nearly a month of mourning in private.
Born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 26, 1990, Wizkid grew up in a diverse household with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His mother, a pillar of strength, provided unwavering support during his rapid ascent in the music industry.
In 2014, Wizkid released “Mummy Mi,” a heartfelt song from his ‘Ayo’ album dedicated to mothers worldwide. The song was a tribute to Jane, acknowledging the immense joy she brought to his life. Wizkid expressed his deep love and promised to shower her with the finest things life had to offer.
